Honouring the Summer Solstice

There is something magical about standing beside flowing water on a summer afternoon. The sun lingers a little longer. The earth feels alive beneath your feet. The river carries its timeless wisdom, reminding us that life is always moving, always changing, always inviting us to let go and begin again.

On June 20, we gather for Sacred Waters, a Summer Solstice experience designed to help us reconnect, with ourselves, with nature, and with the rhythms that have guided humanity for generations.

Why the Summer Solstice Matters

The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year and the peak of the sun's journey across the sky. Across cultures and traditions, this sacred turning point has been celebrated as a time of abundance, vitality, gratitude, and transformation. While the outer world is filled with light, the Solstice also invites us to look inward.

What is flourishing in your life?

What seeds have you planted that are now beginning to bloom?

What are you ready to release as you continue your journey through the year?

The Solstice offers a powerful opportunity to pause, reflect, and intentionally align with what truly matters.

The Wisdom of Water

Water has long been recognized as a symbol of healing, cleansing, renewal, and flow.

It teaches us adaptability. It teaches us surrender. It teaches us that sometimes the most powerful path forward is not through force, but through trust. As we gather beside the river, we will work with the energy of water as a living teacher. The flowing current becomes a reminder that we can release old stories, stagnant emotions, and burdens we no longer need to carry. Just as the river continues its journey, we too are invited to move forward with greater clarity and purpose.

What to Expect

Sacred Waters is not a workshop where you need to have all the answers. It is an experience.

A chance to slow down. A chance to listen. A chance to remember.

Together, we will share:

• A guided riverside meditation

• Sound healing and vibrational relaxation

• Intention setting and reflection practices

• Hear the story of Rivers Creation, and take part in a sacred smudge and tobacco offering ceremony to honour the land and waters

• Gentle connection with the river

• Community gathering and shared presence

Each element has been thoughtfully woven together to create a meaningful Solstice experience that honours both personal healing and our relationship with the natural world.

Healing in Community

There is something profoundly powerful about gathering with others in sacred space. When we sit together under the open sky, surrounded by the sounds of nature and the energy of community, we remember that we are not alone. Our joys are witnessed. Our challenges are witnessed. Our intentions are witnessed. Healing often happens not because we find all the answers, but because we allow ourselves to be fully present.

An Invitation: Whether you are navigating a season of growth, seeking clarity, honouring a personal journey, or simply longing for a deeper connection with nature, Sacred Waters offers a space to pause and reconnect.

As the sun reaches its highest point and the river continues its ancient song, may we remember our own capacity for renewal. May we honour what has brought us here. May we release what no longer serves us. And may we step forward into the season ahead with open hearts and grounded spirits. We invite you to join us on June 20 as we celebrate the Summer Solstice together. The water is waiting. The light is calling. And your place in the circle is already there.

Honouring National Indigenous Peoples Day

The Summer Solstice holds deep significance for many Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island. For generations, Indigenous communities have gathered at this time of year to celebrate life, connection to the land, cultural traditions, community, and the gifts of the natural world.

In Canada, June 21 was chosen as National Indigenous Peoples Day because of this long-standing connection between the Summer Solstice and Indigenous cultural celebrations.

As we gather for Sacred Waters, we do so with gratitude and respect for the Indigenous Peoples who have cared for these lands and waters since time immemorial. Their teachings remind us that we are not separate from nature but part of an interconnected web of relationships, with the earth beneath our feet, the waters that sustain us, the plants and animals that share this world, and one another.

The river that will hold our gathering has flowed long before any of us arrived and will continue long after we are gone. Indigenous wisdom teaches us to approach such places not as resources to be used, but as relatives to be honoured.

Our tobacco offering ceremony is intended as a gesture of gratitude and respect. In many Indigenous traditions, tobacco is considered a sacred medicine and is offered as a way of giving thanks, acknowledging relationship, and carrying prayers and intentions. We encourage all participants to approach this practice with humility, respect, and an open heart.

While Sacred Waters is not an Indigenous ceremony, it is inspired by the values of gratitude, reciprocity, reverence for nature, and community that Indigenous teachings help illuminate. We recognize the importance of continuing to learn, listen, and deepen our understanding of the cultures, histories, and knowledge systems that have shaped this land for thousands of years.

As we celebrate the light of the Solstice, we also honour the resilience, wisdom, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples, whose stories continue to enrich our communities and our collective future.
