Summer Skin, Sacred Self-Care & Soaking Up the Sunshine.

Summer invites us to slow down in a different way.

We spend more time outdoors, our calendars fill with adventures, and our bodies naturally crave fresh food, cool water, and moments beneath the open sky. There is something deeply nourishing about feeling the warmth of the sun on our skin.

At Inner Light Healing Collective, we believe wellness is never about one product, one practice, or one perfect routine. It is created through the small rituals that bring us back to ourselves, moving our bodies, nourishing from within, finding stillness, resting deeply, and caring for ourselves with intention.

Summer skincare is simply another expression of that care.

Caring for Your Skin from the Inside Out

In Ayurveda, summer is associated with the fire element. As the world around us warms, our bodies often benefit from practices that help us stay balanced, hydrated, and grounded. Rather than chasing flawless skin, we invite you to cultivate healthy, supported skin by caring for your whole self.

Hydrate Like It's a Ritual. Hydration is one of the simplest gifts we can offer our bodies.

Sip water throughout the day. Add electrolytes after long walks or hot yoga classes. Enjoy cooling foods like cucumber, watermelon, berries, fresh herbs, and citrus. These small choices help support your body's natural ability to regulate itself while keeping your skin feeling refreshed.

Sometimes wellness is simply remembering to pause...and drink a glass of water.

Feed Your Glow. Beautiful skin begins long before we reach for a moisturizer. Colourful vegetables, leafy greens, healthy fats, berries, seeds, and omega-rich foods provide nutrients that support healthy skin while nourishing the rest of the body, too. It's one more reminder that caring for ourselves is always connected.

A Mindful Relationship with the Sun. We love sunshine. It lifts our mood, encourages us outside, and reminds us to reconnect with nature. Like many good things, though, balance matters. Whether you're hiking, gardening, paddleboarding, or simply enjoying your morning coffee on the deck, protecting your skin allows you to enjoy the season with greater ease.

Some simple ways to support your skin include:

  • Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen that feels good on your skin.

  • Seek shade during the strongest afternoon sun when possible.

  • Wear hats, lightweight clothing, and sunglasses.

  • Reapply sunscreen regularly when spending extended time outdoors.

  • Continue to hydrate throughout the day.

Sun care isn't about fearing the sun. It's about honouring your body while enjoying all the beauty this season has to offer.

An Ayurveda-Inspired Sunscreen Recipe

One of our favourite learning resources, The Shakti School, shares a nourishing homemade sunscreen recipe inspired by Ayurvedic principles.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup coconut oil

  • ½ cup beeswax

  • 1 cup shea butter

  • 2 teaspoons carrot seed oil

  • 4 tablespoons non-nano zinc oxide

Directions:

Melt the coconut oil, beeswax, and shea butter together using a double boiler or a mason jar placed in warm water. Once fully melted, remove from the heat before stirring in the non-nano zinc oxide until evenly incorporated. Pour into a clean container and allow the mixture to cool completely before use.

This recipe is shared as an educational resource inspired by traditional holistic skincare practices.

Choosing Products with Intention.

Many people are becoming more curious about the ingredients found in their skincare products. One ingredient often discussed is oxybenzone, which has been studied for both its environmental impact and potential health concerns. If choosing a commercial sunscreen, you may wish to explore mineral-based options and read ingredient labels to find products that align with your personal values and skincare preferences.

Knowledge empowers mindful choices.

Skin Wellness is Whole-Body Wellness. At Inner Light, we know that healthy skin often reflects a well-supported nervous system.

Some of our favourite summer practices include:

  • Yoga to encourage movement, circulation, and connection.

  • Breathwork to calm the nervous system and create space to simply be.

  • Meditation and Reiki to support deep rest and inner balance.

  • Quality sleep so the body has time to restore itself.

  • Time in nature to reconnect with the rhythms of the season.

  • Moments of joy because laughter, presence, and genuine happiness have a way of making us glow from the inside out.

Our Summer Invitation. This season, instead of asking how to perfect your skin, perhaps ask a gentler question:

"How can I care for myself today?"

Maybe the answer is drinking another glass of water.

Maybe it's wearing a sunhat.

Maybe it's taking a yoga class, sitting under a tree with a good book, or simply allowing yourself a few slow breaths before rushing into the next thing.

At Inner Light Healing Collective, we believe wellness grows through these everyday moments of presence. May your summer be filled with sunshine, nourishment, movement, rest, and the kind of self-care that leaves you glowing from the inside out.

Joy is medicine, too. Spend time laughing, swimming, walking barefoot in the grass, watching sunsets, or sharing meals with people you love. These moments nourish us just as deeply as any skincare ritual.
